Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has criticised Nigerians who are supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections along ethnic lines.
Fayose made his position known in a post on his official Facebook page, where he argued that economic hardship affects Nigerians regardless of their ethnic background.
The social and political commentator questioned why some Nigerians continue to express support for Tinubu on tribal grounds amid concerns over the economy, rising fuel prices and insecurity.
He argued that political leaders should be assessed based on their performance and accountability rather than their ethnic identity.
“Why are some Yoruba people still calling Tinubu ‘our own, our president, our son’ at a time when many Nigerians are struggling to feed, complaining about the economy, and battling insecurity?
“Hunger does not know any tribe. Political support should be based on performance and accountability, not where someone comes from,” Fayose said.
He further warned against placing ethnic loyalty above the welfare and future of citizens.
“Tribal loyalty should not come before the welfare and future of the people,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political discussions surrounding the Tinubu administration and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
